Brown Carrington | Our Approach

You can tell a lot about a lawyer by the way they talk to you.

By now you've probably read a dozen family law websites. Aggressive this. Compassionate that. Fighting for families since whenever. We’ll skip the pitch and talk plainly about who we are. Because who we are is what you're actually hiring.

You didn't get where you are by winging it.
Neither did we.

You read the agreement before you sign it. You know your numbers. You ask the second question, and then the third. When something matters, you prepare. You learned somewhere along the way that luck is not a plan. We practice law the same way. Every case gets built as if a judge will decide it, though most never get that far, because the strongest settlements are negotiated by people who are ready for trial. We do the math before we take a position. We learn the business, the balance sheet, and the family before we advise on any of them. Preparation isn't a service we offer. It's a habit we can't shake.

We’ll tell you the truth, even when it’s uncomfortable.

You have sat across from enough advisors to know the difference between counsel and salesmanship. So have we. When a fight is worth having, we'll say so, and we won't flinch. When it isn't, we'll say that too, even when saying it may be hard to hear or makes our work smaller. A lawyer who only tells you what you want to hear is expensive in ways that never show up on an invoice.

We think discretion is a form of strength.

Your situation may involve a company, a professional reputation, a family name, children who didn't choose any of this. None of it belongs in a spectacle. We don't posture for the gallery or litigate through gossip. The loudest lawyer in the room is rarely the one holding the winning hand. Measured, prepared, and relentless has a better record.

Who we are.

Brown Carrington began in Louisville, started by two lawyers who believed serious family law could be practiced with more intention than the market was offering. The firm now works across six states, which matters more than it sounds. Families, businesses, and assets rarely stay put anymore. Neither do we. What hasn't changed is how we work: as a team. Your case is never one lawyer's file, and the thinking behind it is never one lawyer's opinion.

The standard runs through everything.

We run this firm the way you run your own affairs. Details handled. Calls returned. Rooms prepared before we walk into them. Not because a marketing brief told us to say so, but because sloppiness in small things predicts sloppiness in big ones, and we can't stand either. You'll notice it in your first conversation with us. That's rather the point.

A word about fit.

Not every client is right for us, and we aren't right for everyone. If you're looking for someone to burn it all down for the pleasure of watching the fire, there are lawyers for that. If you want clear eyes, straight answers, and a strategy built around what matters to you, where you’re going, and how to get there, we should talk.

Meet the team.

When you’re ready, we’re here.

“Plan for what is difficult while it is easy. Do what is great while it is small.”
Sun Tzu

There are two things worth mentioning now: 1) there is no such thing as preparing too early and 2) our clients feel better after the first conversation.
